A new home delivery service?

By Headline News

While DPD may not be too concerned, Andrew Miles is investigating the feasibility of utilising his 1929 Morris Minor Tourer (SV 9789) as a ‘home delivery service’ vehicle. Its open body enabling all manner of unusually shaped loads to be transported as illustrated here. On this occasion, ‘SV’ was captured on camera carrying a test shipment of lances for the local Yeovil ‘Knights of the Round Table’ re-enactment group.

By Current Events

The Network’s fourteenth rally will be based upon Chard in Somerset, England and is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 7th-9th June 2024. Chris and Sue Hipwood, our rally hosts, have put together a full program of activities including our traditional Saturday and Sunday tours. These will take in a meander through the world renowned Somerset Levels and the outstanding Blackdown Hills. An entry form can be found here, while an accommodation list is here. It should be noted that all of the rally’s social gatherings will be taking place at The Hornsbury Mill where accommodation is also available. If you are intending to stay at the mill, then it is advisable to book early and specifically quote the Minor Rally when doing so. There are just 30 rally entry slots available, so to avoid disappointment please get your entry form in quickly.

IOTW no.731

By IOTW

1930 Morris Minor Coachbuilt Saloon (WL 9868) features in two earlier IOTWs (727 & 728) both images being taken on a Welsh holiday. Here we see the car being loaded aboard or perhaps disembarking a ferry at an unknown port. Apart from estuary ferries, there were few ‘drive-on’ types in the thirties and all cross-channel ferries at that time entailed the use of a crane to get the car on and off the vessel.

Triple M corner no. 329

By Triple M corner

The Triple M series of MG’s all belong to a family of models that commenced with the 1929 MG Midget and continued through to the mid-thirties via a long string of four and six cylinder OHC engined cars that forged the marques identity.

C.A.N. May was a well known trials exponent in the pre and immediate post-war years as well as authoring two books on the topic (Wheelspin and More Wheelspin.) Here he is seen at the wheel of the blown ex Cream Cracker MG PB (JB 7521) on 26th February 1938 while taking part in that year’s ‘Colmore’. It wasn’t a particularly successful event for Mr. May who collected a 3rd class award for his efforts that day, albeit it was just ten days since his marriage to passenger Joan.
