The Morris Minor Semi-Sports model was a belated attempt by the manufacturer to capture a portion of the growing two-seater light car sector already populated with models from Austin, Singer, Triumph and Jowett. It received a muted launch in the late summer of 1930 but went on to sell over 500 units by the end of December at which juncture Morris launched their SV £100 two-seater, to a huge fanfare in both the motoring and national press. The OHC engined Semi-Sports remained in production until the end of July 1931 by which time 744 cars had found customers. Fewer than 20 cars survive today. The three publicity images reproduced above depict an early prototype (probably JO 132) with a folding hood design that didn’t appear on the production models.
