All over Western Europe, there are many memorials to those who lost their lives in the two World Wars of the last century. These sacrifices are remembered by the local communities that erected and continue to maintain them. This one is located 40 miles west of Lyon in France, on a hillside near the village of Duerne and pays homage to the seven American airmen who lost their lives when their B-24 Liberator crashed while attempting to deliver munitions to the local resistance group. Dominic Ditchfield paid his own respects by visiting the memorial recently in his 1932 Morris Minor Two-seater (HH-968-GS ex RB 6357).
