Replacement parts for the early Lucas distributors fitted to the Minor, Midget and Hornet are difficult to source and costly when found. When a member (senior in years) could not get his Minor to start after a long period in storage, Joe Rayner undertook the task of assisting him, albeit from 400 kilometres away. It was soon established that the car’s Lucas D4-1 distributor was at the root of the problem and Joe’s article (Repairing a Lucas D4 distributor using non-standard parts) details the actions taken to successfully repair the unit. The article can be found in the Members Area, Technical Bits section, under ‘Electrical & Wiring.’
