Triple M Corner no.344

By August 25, 2024Triple M corner

The Triple M series of MG’s all belong to a family of models that commenced with the 1929 MG Midget and continued through to the mid-thirties via a long string of four and six cylinder OHC engined cars that forged the marques identity.

The 1931 MG Midget Occasional Four (later MG D Type Midget) was effectively a long wheelbase M Type built upon a modified MG C Type chassis, so something of a mongrel if its Morris Minor grand parentage is included. Just 250 were built between October 1931 and May 1932. This heavily retouched official MG photograph (no.10269) shows the prototype at Abingdon, sporting MG M Type wheels (Rudge-Whitworth knock-on wheels were used for the production cars) and a louvre free bonnet. The survivors (of which there are over 50) are well supported by the MG D Group run by Ted Hack. https://mgdgroup.org/ (LAT Collection photo courtesy of Motorsport Images.)
