The Triple M series of MG’s all belong to a family of models that commenced with the 1929 MG Midget and continued through to the mid-thirties via a long string of four and six cylinder OHC engined cars that forged the marques identity.
The setting for the Cambridge Auto Club’s 1931 running of their Speed Trials was Branches Park in Suffolk, located midway between Newmarket and Haverhill. Despite taking place toward the tail end of February (21st), the event was blessed with fine, but cold weather. Motor Sport magazine provided two pages of coverage in its March 1931 edition, including a photo of a supercharged MG Midget (MG 557), the eventual winner of the 850 CC class. This photo of MG Midget (UF 6135) was taken from a similar spot and shows car no. 25 and its unnamed driver speeding along the country house’s driveway on one of its timed runs. (LAT Collection)
