The Triple M series of MG’s all belong to a family of models that commenced with the 1929 MG Midget and continued through to the mid-thirties via a long string of four and six cylinder OHC engined cars that forged the marques identity.
These four images were a recent eBay acquisition and depict a 1930 Gloucestershire-registered MG M Type Midget (DG 470), all four having been scanned from large film negatives. The image detail is staggering, while (thankfully) the negatives themselves were in superb condition, having been carefully stored in appropriate film envelopes. Much is known about DG 470. It was issued with its guarantee plate at Abingdon on 25th February 1930 (2M-1077) and dispatched to The Strand Car Mart in Gloucester. The blue M Type was sold to Miss M. Shaw, and it could well be her sitting behind the wheel in two of the images above. Sadly, the vehicle is not currently recorded on the UK’s DVLA database.
