Triple M Corner no.440

By August 27, 2026Triple M corner

The Triple M series of MG’s all belong to a family of models that commenced with the 1929 MG Midget and continued through to the mid-thirties via a long string of four and six cylinder OHC engined cars that forged the marques identity.

SUNBAC launched their Inter Team Trial in July 1933 but only managed to attract four teams to participate for the new trophy donated by Autocar magazine. A.W.F. Smith in his MG J2 Midget (YY 4) was a member of the MG Car Club team that surprisingly finished behind the Singer M.C. and N.W. London M.C. teams. Here, Smith guides his Midget up a steep incline, one of the eleven observed hills en route. A short report on the event appears on P468 of the August 1933 edition of Motor Sport magazine. Note the missing nearside front wing. (LAT Collection Image)
