The Triple M series of MG’s all belong to a family of models that commenced with the 1929 MG Midget and continued through to the mid-thirties via a long string of four and six cylinder OHC engined cars that forged the marques identity.
Situated on the South Downs, above the town, the Lewes Speed Trials were a regular and much-looked-forward-to series of annual fixtures. This photograph of Dennis Evans in the Belleview Garage supercharged 750 CC Montlhery Midget was taken on 8th May 1937 when the car and driver won the 1100 cc class with a time of 22.65 seconds. Just over a year later, on August 20th 1938, Dennis recorded the fastest-ever time by an MG over that same course when the timing apparatus recorded his Midget crossing the line in a remarkable 19.44 seconds.
