The 1933 running of the annual BRDC ‘500’ mile race took place at Brooklands on the 16th September of that year. The 31 starters were all given handicaps, with the first of these being flagged off the starting line at 11:00 AM. Among the starters was RC 450, a lone Wolseley Hornet McEvoy Special (No.29), co-driven by Harold Laird and the car’s designer and tuner Michael McEvoy. The Hornet ran well throughout, while many of the cars taking part were forced to retire due to a plethora of mechanical failures. Sadly, with the end almost in sight, the Hornet was also forced to retire with a camshaft drive failure, leaving just seven finishers; the race being won by Eddie Hall in his MG Magnette.
