Peter Skinner (again)

Following on from IOTW no.500, this image shows the elder of the Skinner siblings wrestling his car around the Lower ‘S’ at Shelsley Walsh in 1938. According to contemporary reports, the 4.2 litre Hudson engined special was exceedingly quick along the straights, while testing the driver’s abilities to the full on the corners. It’s interesting to note that in 1938 crash helmets were required to be worn under the regulations, while for most of the thirties this wasn’t the case.
